About Tartalo
Tartalo is a forum where people interested in the fantastic in the arts can meet to share information, resources, ideas, dreams and illusions. We have a transversal approach that aims to delve into those themes that refer us to the fantastic in the arts, being these understood in a broad way, covering architecture, sculpture, painting, music, literature (including poetry and theatre), performing arts (including dance, opera and circus), cinema, media arts (including radio, television and photography), comics, conceptual art, and technological arts (including new expressions linked to artificial intelligence and videogames).
This forum aims to be both academic and informative, and that is why researchers, academics, students, professionals and people who are passionate about the arts have a place in this space.
Function of the blog
Tartalo seeks the dynamism and usefulness of its content to generate academic debate, on the one hand, and to disseminate useful knowledge on the other in order to share information in a dynamic and attractive way. Therefore, having the blog linked to “Tartalo. Week of the Fantastic in the Arts” in general, and the international congress on “Myth in the Arts” in particular, it is a unique forum to achieve our purpose, being attractive without renouncing scientific rigour.

Our history
Tartalo was born in 2022 between Vitoria-Gasteiz and Madrid, Spain, on the occasion of “Tartalo. I Week of the Fantastic in the Arts in Vitoria-Gasteiz” (Álava) and “VII International Conference on Myth in the Arts”. The conference, hosted by the Faculty of Arts of the University of the Basque Country, is organised by three university research groups accredited by the Basque Government’s higher education system: “REWEST” (Department of English and German Philology, Translation and Interpretation, Faculty of Arts) “MHLI” (Department of Linguistics and Basque Studies, Faculty of Arts) and “AKMEKA” (Faculty of Fine Arts). The aim of the conference is to provide a forum to explore ancient, classical, modern and contemporary myths in all possible artistic fields -from literature, to music, to film, to performance art and virtual media, to name but a few- and from a wide variety of theoretical frameworks -Cultural Studies, Literary Studies, Gender Studies, Feminism/s, Masculinities, LGTBQ+ Studies, Postcolonial Studies, Ecocriticism, Disability Studies, Film Studies, Performative Studies, among others.
Thus, and given the specificity of the themes of both the conference on myth in the arts and the week on the fantastic in the arts, Tartalo emerges as a tailor-made suit in which, imperatively, a blog that also serves as a forum arises naturally.
Initially, Tartalo is a blog promoted and moderated by Dr. Ortega Ventureira, whose blogs Mistérica Land and Patrimonio Digital serve to nourish Tartalo with content in this initial phase. Dr. Montero Gilete accompanies him in this adventure as co-editor. In turn, a large group of collaborators, which we have no doubt will continue to grow, act as the Scientific Committee supporting a project that aims to spread the value of the fantastic in the arts.
